Olympic volunteer applicant volume exceed 670,000

(BEIJING, October 19) -- The number of applicants for the volunteer program of the Beijing Olympic Games has exceeded 670,000, Liu Jingmin, executive vice president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), revealed here on Friday.
Liu, who is also Beijing vice mayor, made the remarks at a press conference at the media center of the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
He said over the last seven years, BOCOG has accomplished the main tasks of the different stages on schedule, laying a solid foundation for the success of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
To ensure the quality of the volunteer services, BOCOG has recruited professional volunteers in ten areas, including VIP escorts, linguistic services, car driving, media operations and competition organizations, he said.
