Beijing Subway Line 10 to operate in June 2008.

(BEIJING, October 19) -- Line 10 and the Olympic Sub-Line of the Beijing Subway, both now under construction, are expected to begin operating next June, ahead of the Beijing Olympics, city officials said on Thursday.

An experimental run has started on completed sections of the lines to ensure the targeted operational frequency for the Olympic Games, the Beijing Daily quoted Ding Shukui, vice general manager of Beijing Rail Transport Construction and Management Co., as saying.

Previously, trial runs would take place only after the whole line was inaugurated, and the initial interval would be set at over 10 minutes and then shortened to three or four minutes. Under the circumstances today, the time remaining is too short for a complete trial run, so the builders have decided to work around the clock to make the lines ready for an interval of three minutes upon operating next year, the official said.

The 24.6 km Line 10 subway will be linked with the 5.91 km Olympic Sub-Line to bring passengers to the city's central business district and the Olympic central area. When these two subway lines are completed, the capital city will have a subway 172 km long.
